Where We Came From
Jim Johnston founded NCMS in 1984 (formerly the Community Music School) in affiliation with the Nashua Symphony Orchestra as a way for symphony musicians to offer private music lessons to the community of Greater Nashua, NH. NCMS has expanded to include a full range of private music lessons, group classes, ensembles, music therapy, summer camps, and music outreach programs for all ages.
Significant milestones include receiving 501c3 nonprofit status in 1985, establishing a central facility in 2006, launching the Music For All! Scholarship Program (now known as the Community Fund) and Music Outreach Program in 2014, and most recently the relocation of the school to 2 Lock Street during the Delta variant outbreak in 2021.
